Mainsails and Sea Spray: Esbjerg Hosts the World's Most Beautiful Sailing Race
The countdown to August 6 is seriously underway. Four days of magnificent maritime celebrations await as The Tall Ships Races, featuring some of the world's largest vessels, return to Esbjerg.
The waterfront will buzz with life and excitement as some of the world’s largest sailing ships visit the Danish port city from August 6 to 9.
The Tall Ships Races bring the world's largest race for traditional sailing ships to town, simultaneously inviting everyone to a free, world-class maritime celebration.
Mayor Jesper Frost Rasmussen looks forward to the event:
"The Tall Ships Races bring the world to Esbjerg, creating experiences across generations through our shared fascination with maritime heritage. We celebrate the city's proud maritime past while inviting new generations close to a harbor that today drives future green solutions and sustainable transition."
Over Two Kilometers of Quay Filled with Ships
For four festive days, the waterfront will be bustling with activities, food stalls, and concerts. The impressive vessels, including 15 of the largest Class A ships, will dock in Dokhavnen and Trafikhavnen. A total of 45 ships from 18 nations will participate, occupying more than two kilometers of quay space. Many of the ships will open their decks to visitors, offering an inside look.
The fleet's longest vessel is the Peruvian navy ship B.A.P. Unión, measuring an impressive 118 meters. The Portuguese navy schooner N.R.P. Sagres will also attract attention, visiting Denmark for only the second time in its history—the first being in 1995.
This year's main sponsor, VIKING Life-Saving Equipment, will have a prominent presence along the quay. Their area will offer the opportunity to explore modern rescue equipment and learn more about how this Esbjerg-based company works to ensure safety at sea.
CEO Henrik Helsinghof, VIKING Life-Saving Equipment:
"Our headquarters are in Esbjerg, and our employees have strong ties to the city and harbor. Together, we develop life-saving solutions for sea travel, and The Tall Ships Races is a fantastic opportunity to share our pride with the local community and many international visitors."
Winner Announced in Esbjerg This year, Esbjerg is not just hosting but also serving as the finishing port for The Tall Ships Races. This means the race’s final leg—and overall winner—will be decided here after stops in France, Scotland, and Norway. The Tall Ships Races are organized by Sail Training International to promote sailing training and cultural exchange among young people worldwide.
